YOU too Can Clean Like a Pro!
Here is a common sense,
lighter look at the dirty business of running a clean home. Schar
has been cleaning up Minnesota, one home at a time, for decades.
She owns a professional cleaning service, Domestic Engineering.
Her advice spans the basics of cleaning a home as well as helping
kids learn to clean, remodeling do's and don'ts, a discussion
of cleaning products and a few fun cleaning excercises. There
are lists of daily, weekly and seasonal chores.

Spring
(and Fall) Cleaning
by Schar Ward
My alternative
to spring and fall cleaning is to clean two rooms thoroughly each
month. Consider the cleaning "an appointment" that you
cannot forget. Schedule a day in the first week of each month
(or any day that is conventient for you). That will make it easier
to remember.
Not everybody
will be prepared to do this so you can post this list of areas
that do need at least an annual cleaning. If spring fits your
mind set, terrific!
• Defrost
(or at least empty and clean out) your refrigerator and freezer.
• Clean
the range and oven, burners and drip pans. Rise cleaned areas
with a water and vinegar solution to neutralize any residue.
• Wash
curtains, windows and/or blinds.
• Wash
walls and woodwork, including the baseboards.
• Wash
or dust light fixtures. (Make sure the bulb is cold.)
• Clean
the paneling and wash wallpaper, if necessary.
• Wash
throw rugs, blankets, spreads, pillows and slipcovers.
• Shampoos
large rugs, upholstered furniture and carpet. Or have someone
come in to do it professionally.
• Organize
and clean the closets and kitchen cabinets.
• Clean
radiators, vents, range hoods and fans. (Oil if necessary.)
• Vacuum
mattress, box spring and frame.(And area UNDER the bed, too.)
Wash mattress pad and turn the mattress—through this should
be done more than once a year.
• Polish
silver, copper, brass and other metals.
• Wash
and disinfect garbage and trash containers.
• Wax
floors by hand or with a machine.
• Wash
screens and storm windows.
And
if this is more than you want to handle, give yourself a break.
Hire a professional cleaning service for a week or two to get
the list done!
